NHRC directs government to act patiently to maintain harmony

KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the government to maintain social harmony by checking possible incidents that are capable of spreading communal, social, cultural and political violence.

The Government of Nepal was instructed to act with tolerance to prevent potential incidents inciting communal, social, cultural and political violence and book the guilty of such incidents, stated a press release issued here today by NHRC spokesperson Dr Tikaram Pokharel.

“The human rights watchdog body has urged the political parties, religious organizations, faith leaders, religious and social activists and civil society to show tolerance, keep social good will and maintain social and religious harmony being sensitive to the gravity of the incident, and exercise the freedom of expression and opinion by respecting the individual’s dignity and social and cultural solidarity”, the press release stated.

The constitutional body has also called for all sides concerned to explore the solution of the differences surfaced among them, it is noted in the release.
