KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged one and all not to make public speeches that jeopardize peace and security. The government, political parties, campaigners and general public are made aware of it.

Issuing a press statement on Tuesday, NHRC Spokesperson Dr Tikaram Pokhrel urged all sides to be cautious on the free expression in relation to national security and peace.

Spokesperson Dr Pokhrel, however, said, “Arresting anyone merely for expressing views is against human rights. So, the government must be serious towards protection and promotion of human rights.”

NHRC has informed that it monitored the arrest of campaigner Durga Prasain and garnered information from the Kathmandu District Police Range, Bhadrakali, campaigner Prasain and related police officials.

Campaigner Prasain was arrested from his residence last midnight from own residence in Sanothimi, Bhaktapur and detained at District Police Range, Kathmandu.

As per initial report, he was arrested for the investigation into public security and handed over a chit of a detainee. His health is normal, NHRC added.
