KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has directed Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak to take legal action against individuals involved in vandalism and violent activities at Tribhuvan University (TU).
During a meeting held at Singha Durbar with university officials on Monday, PM Oli—who also serves as the university’s Chancellor—stressed that those responsible for the acts of vandalism must not be granted impunity.
Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khadga KC informed that despite filing complaints with the police against the culprits, some of the detained individuals were released, raising serious concern.
Due to ongoing security concerns, university officials are currently operating from outside the Kirtipur campus, Dr. KC said.
He presented a written request to the Prime Minister seeking stronger security arrangements to ensure a peaceful academic environment.
He added that PM Oli’s commitment has given the university hope for improved safety and stability.
Earlier incidents of vandalism were reported at the Office of the Rector and the Dean of the Institute of Science and Technology in Kirtipur on March 5, as well as at Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus in Exhibition Road.
The most recent attack occurred on May 28 at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office in Kirtipur.
