HUMLA: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is visiting Humla today to inaugurate a newly constructed Bailey bridge over the Chwakhola River, a major component of the strategic Karnali Corridor project.

The bridge, located in Kharpunath Rural Municipality-5, will officially connect Simikot, the district headquarters of Humla, to Nepal’s national road network for the first time.

Humla has long been the only district in the country without road connectivity.

Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal is also accompanying PM Oli on the trip.

Preparations for the prime minister’s arrival had been ongoing for several days, with construction of the bridge completed at a rapid pace ahead of schedule.

Though road-building efforts began in the district 26 years ago, formal connection to the national road system had remained elusive—until now.

The inauguration marks a major milestone for the Karnali region and ends a decades-long wait for road access for the residents of Humla.
