LUMBINI: Chairman of CPN (Maoist Centre) and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has stated that unity among the communist parties was essential for the country. Split in the party led to its downsized position, according to Prachanda.

Addressing the seventh plenum of the CPN (Maoist Centre) Lumbini Province Committee in Butwal on Sunday, the former Prime Minister said that the unity of the UML and Maoist Centre could not be sustained as the Maoist Centre was not given the leadership in the post-unification period. “I can speak with confidence that the party (CPN) would not have divided if the leadership were ours. But, the main leadership was not ours. The party split due to the UML’s main leadership,” he added.

On the occasion, the Maoist Centre Chairman argued that attempts were ongoing to create illusions among the people through massive false publicity targeting the Maoist leaders.

Stating that the communist movement was heading towards unity, Dahal mentioned that polarization in other parties would be intensified and the Maoist Centre would take its leadership if the party advanced aggressively.

Maoist Centre leaders Barsha Man Pun, Chakrapani Khanal, Sudarshan Baral Magar and others shared their views at the meeting.
