KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that saving the Himalayas is synonymous with saving the Earth, oceans, and humanity itself.
He emphasized that the Sagarmatha Sambaad was organized as a platform for global discourse on this interconnected reality.
Addressing the inaugural session of the Sagarmatha Sambaad, organized for the first time by the Government of Nepal, Prime Minister Oli explained that the dialogue was born out of the need for honest communication, mutual knowledge-sharing, and collective action, symbolically named after the world’s highest peak, Sagarmatha (Mount Everest).
“We hope this dialogue reaches the highest level—not just in altitude but in moral clarity, intellectual courage, and a steadfast collective vision for building a beautiful future,” Prime Minister Oli remarked.
“Our homes are being swept away by landslides. Floods and droughts come suddenly, yet we endure. Our emissions are low, but our contributions to environmental conservation are significant,” he added.
