KANCHANPUR: A radar level sensor (RLS) has been installed in Radha stream, the main tributary of the Chaudharnadi river flowing through Bedkot Municipality in the district.

The RLS technology has been established to measure water level in the river with the aim of making the flood early warning system effective.

The technology was installed under the SMART project run in partnership with the Institute of Himalayan Risk Reduction, DCA Nepal and Nepal National Social Welfare Association, Kanchanpur, said project coordinator Raj Kumar Sunar. According to him, the technology installation was carried out in collaboration with the Hydrology and Meteorology Office, Attariya and Bedkot Municipality.

The radar level sensor installed in the river will collect real-time data on the water level of the river and feed data, said coordinator Sunar.

This will provide timely early warning of possible floods during the rainy season, helping protect the lives and property of citizens in the downstream areas of Bedkot, Bhimdatta Municipality, and Beldandi Rural Municipality.

Bedkot Municipality Mayor Bhojraj Bohara said that the municipality has been prioritizing the use of modern technology for disaster risk reduction.

He expressed confidence that this new technology will help the local community reduce the damage caused by floods and help in disaster management.
