KATHMAND: Rajendra Mahato, chairperson of the Rastriya Mukti Party Nepal, announced a nationwide protest on Thursday in response to what he described as state repression during the Mukumlun (Pathibhara) movement.
Speaking at a press conference, Mahato condemned the government’s actions on February 8-10, calling them an “ethnic massacre” targeting the Limbu community. He accused security forces of excessive violence, false charges against activists, and unlawful arrests.
“The brutal crackdown during the Pathibhara struggle has proven to be a crime against humanity,” Mahato said, urging the government to immediately release detained activists and take action against the police chief responsible.
Mahato further criticized the government for its treatment of peaceful protesters and called on all justice-loving Nepalis to join the movement against what he described as the state’s authoritarian policies. The Rastriya Mukti Party vowed to continue its fight against what it sees as increasing state repression and narrow-minded governance.
