RASUWAGADHI: Reconstruction work on the Friendship Bridge (Miteri Pul) at the Nepal-China northern border crossing of Rasuwagadhi has officially commenced.

The bridge, measuring 10 meters wide and 100 meters long, was severely damaged by unprecedented floods in the Lende Khola on July 8.

Chief District Officer (CDO) Arjun Paudel informed that the Chinese government started reconstruction efforts on Sunday.
Earlier, on Saturday, a high-level Nepali delegation led by CDO Paudel conducted an on-site inspection of the Friendship Bridge area.

During the inspection, officials from both countries held a virtual meeting at the construction site, discussing in detail flood rescue and relief operations, reconstruction priorities, and plans for a permanent structure.

According to CDO Paudel, after the suspension of cross-border movement and trade between Nepal and China, the Chinese side has begun constructing a Bailey bridge as the first phase of restoration. Ground leveling for this temporary bridge has already started.

The District Administration Office of Rasuwa noted that this swiftly initiated temporary bridge construction is expected to provide immediate relief by restoring essential movement for locals, traders, and cross-border service users. The permanent bridge reconstruction is also a top priority for both nations.

The Chinese counterparts have assured that the Bailey bridge will be completed by mid-September.

Meanwhile, construction on the integrated customs building at Rasuwagadhi remains halted.
