KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued a show-cause notice against officials of the high-level inquiry commission formed to investigate the Gen Z protests in September, including Chairman Gauri Bahadur Karki and members Bigyanraj Sharma and Bishweshwar Prasad Bhandari.
Justice Nripadhwaj Niraula presided over the single-judge bench. The court also directed the officials to appear for a hearing.
The writ, filed by advocate Bipin Dhakal, accused Karki and Sharma of publicly expressing opinions on matters under investigation, demonstrating bias and undermining the principle of impartiality.
The petition sought an interim order restraining the commission members from carrying out any official duties until the matter is resolved.
The Gen Z protests in September had prompted the government to form the special inquiry commission, led by former Special Court Chairperson Karki, to investigate damages caused during the movement.
