KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has stated that there is no basis to include political parties as defendants in the case concerning the initiation of the Gen Z movement.

On Wednesday, the Constitutional Bench concluded that the petitioners had not shown sufficient reason to make the political parties respondents in the case.

Accordingly, the Court issued an order stating that, contrary to the petitioners’ demand, the political parties do not need to submit written responses.

However, the order instructed the remaining respondents, including the Office of the President, to submit written replies within seven days.

“…From the date of receipt of this order, excluding the travel period, respondents number 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 shall submit their written responses through the Office of the Attorney General within seven days. A notice and copy of the petition shall be served to these respondents, and once the responses are received or the submission period has expired, the case shall proceed as per the law,” the order reads.

It further adds that since the petition did not provide reasonable grounds or justification to seek written responses from other respondents apart from numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7, it was not necessary to call for replies from the remaining parties.
