KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Supreme Court is grappling with a functional crisis after a “Gen Z moment” targeted the apex court, High Courts, and several lower courts. Amid the disruption, the Chief Justice and several Supreme Court justices visited abroad.

Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, along with senior-most justice Sapana Pradhan Malla, justice Binod Sharma, and Chief Registrar Bimal Paudel, are currently on Bangladesh.

A delegation led by Acting Chief Justice Justice Kumar Regmi visited China on Monday morning. Justices Nahakul Subedi, Nityananda Pandey, and Bal Krishna Dhakal are also in Beijing, China.

Meanwhile, domestic court operations have slowed. On Monday, only three benches were able to hear cases, covering 19 matters, while two cases did not convene. That day, the court issued three verdicts and 14 orders, highlighting the limited activity amid the ongoing judicial absences.
