KATHMANDU: Nearly 200 Nepali nationals stranded in China’s Kerung after the Bhotekoshi flood swept away the Miteri Bridge at the Rasuwagadhi border on July 8 are being brought back to Nepal today (Wednesday, July 23).

The flood had left them stuck in Chinese territory for over two weeks. Early this morning, the stranded Nepalis began their journey in Chinese vehicles toward the Tatopani (Zhangmu) border crossing.

According to Lakshmi Prasad Niraula, Nepal’s Consul General in Lhasa, the Chinese government had arranged safe shelter for 203 Nepalis while they were in Kerung.

Following diplomatic efforts between the two governments, China agreed to assist in their repatriation via the Tatopani border.

Once they arrive in Tatopani later today, they will be handed over to Nepali authorities.
