KATHMANDU: Sugarcane farmers protesting in Kathmandu have announced an indefinite blockade of the national highway in Hariwan, Sarlahi, starting from September 10.
They accused the government of unfairly cutting subsidies owed to them and warned of intensifying their agitation.
Farmers said that despite staging a week-long sit-in at Maitighar, the government showed no concern, forcing them to shift their protest to the highways.
Led by the Sugarcane Producers’ Federation, the farmers have also demanded their participation in setting the official price of sugarcane.
