KATHMANDU: Talks are currently underway at Singha Durbar between the government and protesting transport entrepreneurs over the nationwide public transportation strike triggered by the recent approval of ride-sharing and self-drive regulations by the Gandaki Provincial Government.
Led by Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, the discussions aim to resolve the entrepreneurs’ demand to repeal the rule allowing privately owned vehicles to operate as rented vehicles under the guise of ride-sharing.
Meanwhile, under the banner of the Central Struggle Committee for the Protection of Public Transport, transport entrepreneurs have enforced a nationwide blockade, suspending all public transport services since Monday.
This has caused significant disruption to daily life, with passengers stranded at bus stops across the country.
In Kathmandu Valley, usually crowded streets appear almost deserted, with only private motorcycles, cars, and a few taxis running, while public buses, microbuses, and tempos remain off the roads.
The indefinite shutdown continues to affect public mobility nationwide.
