KATHMANDU: The Nepal Teachers’ Federation has decided to launch a protest starting from late August, citing the government’s failure to move forward with the School Education Bill as per previous agreements.
Federation Chairman Laxmikishor Subedi informed that the decision was made during a meeting held in Kathmandu on Thursday.
He said a protest mobilization committee will draft the program, which will then be approved by the national committee.
Prior to that, a full in-person meeting of the national committee has been scheduled for August 19 and 20, Subedi added.
He further mentioned that he has no information on the status of the bill within the Education Committee and stressed that only after its registration in the House of Representatives can the provisions of the bill be properly evaluated.
The meeting also reviewed the developments since the agreement with the government.
Subedi stated that the federation believes the proposed bill does not appear to address the problems in school education or satisfy the broader concerns of the teachers.
