Police in Makawanpur district on Thursday morning arrested three persons in possession of 143.3 kg of marijuana from Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan-11. The cannabis was recovered from a container truck with registration number NA 1 KHA 9910 from Thana Bhanjyang Road by the police.

The arrested have been identified as Sanak Bahadur Tamang (28) and Some Tamang (24), both resident of Bahrabise Municipality in Sindhupalchowk district, and an 18-year-old youth whose name has not been disclosed but a resident of Raksirang Rural Municipality-1 in Makawanpur district.

The container was heading towards Hetauda from Manahari. Acting on a tip-off, security personnel deployed from the Makawanpur-based District Police Office nabbed them with the substance during a routine vehicle check. The police seized the marijuana which was packed in 12 bags and hidden in a false bottom under the rear seat of the cabin.

Further investigation into the matter is underway, said the police.
