KATHMANDU: The Immigration Office at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has officially enforced a Code of Ethics for its employees, effective from Friday.

According to Chief Immigration Officer Bishnu Prasad Koirala, the new code was introduced following frequent complaints that staff were using inappropriate language and behaving harshly with travelers.

Under the new guidelines, employees must now greet incoming visitors to Nepal by saying “Welcome to Nepal – may your stay be pleasant,” and see off departing passengers with the phrase “Wishing you a successful journey.”

The ethical code aims to align immigration services with international standards, while also ensuring that staff remain sensitive and responsible towards national laws and Nepal’s socio-cultural values.

It is expected to promote better personal, professional, and official conduct among employees, ultimately making services faster, fairer, transparent, predictable, and results-oriented, the office said.

To monitor implementation, the office has set up feedback counters at 15 desks, where passengers can rate services as Excellent, Satisfactory, or Average.

Plans are underway to install similar feedback systems at all remaining desks to enhance accountability and service delivery.
