KAVRE: The BP Highway, which was completely blocked due to a mudslide triggered by heavy rainfall, has resumed operations.
On Sunday evening, a landslide caused by the swelling of a stream in Rosi Rural Municipality-9, Pinthali, had obstructed the road.
Similarly, at around 10:35 PM on Sunday night, the floodwaters from the Mamti stream in Rosi-11 also washed away part of the highway, rendering it impassable.
According to the District Police Office, Kavrepalanchok, the road section in Pinthali that had been closed since 6:30 PM on Sunday was fully reopened at 5:55 AM on Monday.
The flood-damaged section near Mamti was also restored and reopened at 6:00 AM.
Last September, floods severely damaged a 29-kilometer stretch of the BP Highway from Katunje to the Sindhuli border at Boksi Kuna.
With monsoon rains continuing, even minor downpours are now enough to obstruct the highway.
To minimize road blockages during the monsoon, the Bhaktapur Road Division Office has deployed 21 heavy equipment units along the highway.
