KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) resumed operations at 9:36 pm on Saturday after a four-hour closure caused by a technical fault in the runway’s airfield lighting system. Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) Director General Pradeep Adhikari told Nepal News that the power supply to the runway was restored following repairs, allowing all flights to resume.
The technical team had begun fixing the runway’s electrical circuit at 3:30 pm and completed the work by late evening. TIA Director and spokesperson Renji Sherpa said the lighting issue had forced some aircraft to hold in the air while others were diverted.
During the outage, all domestic flights were temporarily suspended, and international departures and arrivals were delayed. With the runway back in operation, both domestic and international flights are resuming, though the airport remains crowded due to the backlog of flights.
