KATHMANDU: Following recent violent protests in Nepal, the United Nations, neighboring India and China, and several Western countries have called for restraint and resolution through dialogue.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed sorrow over the loss of lives, urged impartial investigation, and called on the government to protect human rights while ensuring protests remain peaceful.

India said it is closely monitoring developments, mourning the deaths, and emphasized that issues must be addressed peacefully through dialogue. It also advised its citizens in Nepal to exercise caution.

China described Nepal as a close friend and neighbor, expressing confidence that Nepal will resolve its domestic issues independently and restore stability soon.

United States and European Union joined other embassies including Australia, UK, Germany, Japan, and South Korea in issuing a joint statement condemning violence, extending condolences to victims’ families, and urging maximum restraint and protection of citizens’ rights.

The European Union specifically called for an independent investigation into the killings during protests.
