ILAM: The death toll from landslides in Ilam has risen to 28 following continuous rainfall on Saturday and Sunday.

Landslides have been reported across seven local levels of the district.

According to the Armed Police Force, three people were killed in Sandakpur Rural Municipality after a landslide struck on Sunday morning.

DSP Shailendra Thapa, spokesperson of the force, confirmed the fatalities.

Earlier, landslides triggered by heavy rain had killed 8 people in Maijogmai Rural Municipality, 6 in Ilam Municipality, 5 in Suryodaya Municipality, 3 in Mangsebung Rural Municipality, 2 in Deumai Municipality, and 1 in  Phakphokthum Rural Municipality.

Meanwhile, two people injured in a landslide in Ilam Municipality were airlifted by a Nepal Army helicopter to Biratnagar for treatment.
