Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav has said the festival like Maghi helps in fostering durable peace by keeping intact national unity.
In a festival greetings on the occasion of Maghe Shankranti today, the Vice President wished peace, prosperity, and happiness to all Nepali sisters and brothers living in the country and abroad.
The Maghe Shankranti is celebrated in different names in different communities as Maghi in Tharu community. It is also called Makar Shankranti.
The Magar ethnicity also observes this festival as a New Year. Similarly, Limbu, Sunuwar, Surel, Yakkha, Dhimal communities also observe the day in memory of their King Yalambar, the Vice President reminded.
The festival given various names and observed by different communities spread positive message among multi-cultures which ultimately reflects Nepal’s unity in diversity. Indigenous identity and tolerance are also reflected well.
Vice President Yadav further said the festival inspire all to live in harmony.
