Weather: Rainfall expected in several provinces today

KATHMANDU – Nepal is currently experiencing the effects of western and local wind systems, along with moisture-rich air flowing in from the Bay of Bengal, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecasting Division.

At present, skies are partly cloudy across Koshi, Madhesh, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, while the rest of the country remains mostly clear. Light rain has been recorded at a few locations in the Terai region of Koshi Province.

By afternoon, hilly areas in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces are expected to become partly to generally cloudy. Other regions will continue to experience mainly clear to partly cloudy conditions.

The Division has forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in several parts of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, with isolated showers possible elsewhere. In the mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, there is also a likelihood of light rain and snowfall.

Tonight, the weather is expected to be partly to mostly cloudy in the mountainous regions of Koshi and Madhesh provinces, while the rest of the country will likely remain clear to partly cloudy. Light rain with thunder and lightning may occur at one or two locations in the highlands of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.
