KATHMANDU: The Weather Forecasting Division (WFD) has issued a warning as a rain system currently affecting western Nepal on Sunday morning advances northeast.
In its Sunday morning bulletin, the Division reported light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning in scattered parts of Dadeldhura and Achham.
With the system shifting northeast, authorities have urged people to stay cautious and take necessary safety measures.
Meteorologists define rainfall intensity as follows: light rain is under 10 millimeters within 24 hours, moderate rain ranges from 10 to 50 millimeters, heavy rain from 50 to 100 millimeters, very heavy rain from 100 to 200 millimeters, and rainfall exceeding 200 millimeters is considered extreme.
The Division also explained rainfall coverage terms: “some places” indicates about 50 percent of the area, “a few places” means 25 to 30 percent, and “one or two places” refers to less than 25 percent of the area.
