A woman died after being attacked by an elephant in Shivsatakshi municipality-11 of Jhapa. The incident took place at around 2:00 am today.
Krishna Maya Bhandari was attacked as she tried to escape from the elephants that were bringing her house down. Seriously injured in the attack, Krishna Maya died during treatment at the local hospital.
The elephant also attacked her husband Shanti Ram Bhandari and seriously injured him. He is undergoing treatment.
A group of four elephants including a baby elephant entered the village from the nearby jungle at around 11 pm on Saturday.
A woman died in an elephant attack at Madhuban of Barahakshetra Municipality-11 in Sunsari district on Monday.
The victim was 65-year old local Mamani Devi Khatwe, according to District Police Office, Sunsari.
Police Inspector Subash Bhattarai informed that Khatwe was attacked by an elephant while she was collecting grass. She died on the way to the hospital, according to a local Raj Kumar Shah.
The elephant came prowling from nearby Koshitappu Wildlife Reserve.
The locals irate after the incident have staged protests, arguing that they were suffering time and again due to elephant menace. The local administration has been demanded to control the wild elephants and provide compensation to the victim’s family, Shah added.
A person from Koshi Rural Municipality-2 was killed by the wild elephant a few days back.
A woman has died after being attacked by a wild elephant.
The deceased has been identified as Tilmaya Bhujel,50, of Ujelinagar in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-13.
The incident took place at around 4:00 this morning and Bhujel died on the spot after coming under attack of the elephant, Area Police Office, Geetanagar said. Bhujel was attacked as she tried to run out of the house that was being attacked by the elephant.
The elephant also damaged three houses in the locality. Total damage incurred in the incident is not yet known.
