KATHMANDU: A special ceremony was organized at local Tundikhel in celebration of the Second World Meditation Day, today.
This event was organized by the Main Ceremony Organizing Committee established by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology. Yoga and meditation instructors delivered lectures and led practice sessions in the programme.
Mahabir Pun, the Coordinator of the Main Celebration Committee and Minister for Education, announced that directives have been issued to incorporate yoga and meditation as extracurricular activities in schools.
He also emphasized the importance of prioritizing yoga and meditation, as they can contribute to the promotion of tourism.
Health and Population Minister Dr Sudha Sharma Gautam remarked that yoga, Ayurveda, and meditation, recognized as traditional medical practices, have been integrated into the government’s health programmes and policies, and called upon all organizations in this sector to collaborate.
Ananda Arun from the Osho Tapovan expressed that Nepal has the potential to become a hub for meditation, highlighting that even economically advanced nations face mental stress.
During the programme, Dr Kanchan Ghimire, a trainer from the Art of Living Nepal, along with Ram Singh Ayer from the Brahma Kumari Meditation Centre, facilitated meditation sessions.
On December 7 of the previous year, the United Nations designated December 21 as the World Meditation Day. This year, the observance is themed ‘Meditation for World Peace and Harmony.’
