KATHMANDU: At the ongoing Central Committee meeting of the Nepali Congress, senior leader Arjun Narsingh KC submitted a 15-point written proposal urging the party to hold a regular or special convention without delay.

KC highlighted that even short preparation is sufficient, recalling that the party’s 11th general convention was successfully held with just 40 days of preparation.

He warned that the current Central Working Committee’s term has expired, stressing the committee has a legal duty to address the collective demand of 54 percent of members for a special convention.

“On what basis does this elected committee continue to function? It must clarify that it remains in office only until the next convention,” KC said.

With upcoming elections and the country’s political complexities, he said a convention is crucial to set the Nepali Congress’s future roadmap and ensure the party’s organizational legitimacy.

The Nepali Congress, one of Nepal’s oldest political parties, faces growing internal pressure to hold its next general convention, a key mechanism for leadership renewal and policy decisions.
