KATHMANDU: Internal tensions within the Nepali Congress have intensified after Gorkha MP Rajendra Bajgain took a veiled swipe at senior leader Dr. Shashank Koirala, hinting at questionable gifts allegedly received by him. The post follows heated exchanges within the party over the ongoing visit visa scandal.

In a post shared Monday on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Bajgain published a photo of Koirala with three luxury SUVs one Kia and two Mahindras subtly implying that the vehicles were “gifts” meant to curry political favor.

The caption, laden with sarcasm, questioned the source and intention behind such lavish offerings. “I wish I didn’t have to question the SUV gifts (one Kia, two Mahindras), gold Rolexes, cash-filled duffle bags, so-called ‘house renovations,’ or the trading of political positions!” Bajgain wrote. “You will inevitably be asked for an explanation.”

The post comes a day after Dr. Koirala, during a Nepali Congress party meeting, demanded disciplinary action against Bajgain and others including Shekhar Koirala — who had called for resignations within the party leadership over the controversial visit visa scandal, which has drawn public scrutiny and sparked calls for transparency.

While Bajgain did not name Koirala directly in his post, the photo and context left little ambiguity. The accusations touch on a sensitive nerve within the party, which has been grappling with internal divisions and rising criticism from within its own ranks.

No official response has yet been issued by Dr. Shashank Koirala regarding the allegations or the implication made in the post.
