Cabinet decisions made public

KATHMANDU: The government has extended the deadline of committee formed to access the loss and damage caused to the public and private sectors during the Gen-Z protests of September 8 and 9. The committee is given 30 more days.

Announcing the decisions of the Council of Ministers of December 1, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel said that a decision was made to provide identity card with photograph to the martyrs’ families of the Gen Z protest. As decided by the government, the identity card would be provided by the Home Ministry to mother, father, husband, wife, unmarried son and unmarried daughter of the martyrs.

Likewise, the government has decided to observe the Gen Z Martyr Day on Bhadra 23 every year.

The cabinet meeting has also decided to appoint Revenue Secretary of Finance Ministry Bhupal Baral as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Employees’ Provident Fund, Minister Kharel shared.

Likewise, the government has set a limit for cash transaction deciding that a single transaction of over Rs 500,000 in purchase of goods and services should be carried out through a financial institution or banking channel. This decision will come into effect from January 15, 2026.

Likewise, the government has approved the participation of a Nepali delegation under the leadership of Joint Secretary Shivaram Pokhrel to take part in the fifth meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Working Group on Oil and Gas Cooperation. The meeting is taking place in New Delhi, India, on December 8.

The Cabinet has decided to make changes to the Annex-1 of the Act Related to the Remuneration, Facilities and Conditions Other Services of the Chief Justice and the Justices of the Supreme Court, 2074 BS and the Annex-1 of the Act Related to the Remuneration, Facilities and Conditions Other Services of the Judges of the High Court and the District Court, 2074 BS.

The Council of Ministers’ meeting has decided to approve the Nepal Special Service (Twentieth Amendment) Regulations, 2082 BS.

It has decided to provide 200,000 US dollars to the Sri Lankan government as assistance on behalf the Government of Nepal in the context of the massive loss of life and property due to the floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains there.

The government has decided to grant approval to the Minister for Health and Population to participate in the Second WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine and the WHO Global Strategy 2025-2034 being organized in New Delhi, India on December 17 to 19.

The Cabinet meeting decided to appoint Prof Gyan Bahadur Thapa of Gulmi to the vacant post of Secretary of the University Grants Commission, to nominate Er. Dipak Shrestha of Gorkha to the post of Member-Secretary of the Lumbini Development Trust (LDT) and to nominate Dr Kumar Sharma Acharya of Dang as the Chairman of the Press Council Nepal.

The Cabinet has also decided to approve the Carbon Trade Regulations, 2025.
