KATHMANDU: The Nepal Citizenship (Second Amendment) Bill, 2081, has been unanimously passed by the National Assembly.

The bill, which had already been endorsed by the House of Representatives, was approved in Friday’s meeting of the Upper House.

National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal announced the unanimous passage.

The bill was introduced to make it easier to provide citizenship through the mother’s name.

After passing the National Assembly, the bill will be sent back to the House of Representatives with a message. Thereafter, Speaker Devraj Ghimire will authenticate it and forward it to the Office of the President for final approval.
