KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Shyam Ghimire said the dialogue held among leaders on the pressing issues of the party, in wake of special general convention were making headway to a consensus. The talks were held in a positive manner, he asserted.
Before holding the central committee meeting of the party at its central office, Sanepa, Ghimire, belonging to the establishment faction led by party President Sher Bahadur Deuba, informed that rounds of discussions were held to seek resolution to problems facing the party for quite a while.
“Discussions are going on. We believe we will reach a consensus by this night,” he said, adding that the party would be kept intact.
He further said the central working committee was delayed due to the rounds of dialogue between the two factions- establishment and the one favouring special general convention. The central committee meeting called for 1:00 am Tuesday has not begun till the time this news is prepared.
The special general convention is being held for three days in the federal capital, Kathmandu, demanding the ouster of president Deuba from the top post in view of the changed context.
General Secretaries duo Gagan Thapa and Bishwo Prakash Sharma had led the special convention initiation. They presented two separate proposals in the closed session on broader issues including party organization and leadership, to which the participants discussed in groups.
Although the election committee under the special general convention has announced to forward election schedule, it is reported to have postponed lately.
Dozens of leaders, even those who were once ardent followers and supporters of President Deuba, expressed sympathy to General Secretaries’ drive for new leadership. The General Secretaries have been demanding the party President to address and own up the special general convention.
