KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has scheduled a priority hearing for Asar 8 (June 22) on a contempt of court petition filed by Senior Advocate Dinesh Tripathi against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and four ministers.

The petition demands their dismissal and disqualification from holding public office over a budget provision allowing private sector export of construction minerals, which Tripathi argues violates a prior court ruling.

The fiscal year 2082/83 (2025/26) budget’s clause no. 87 mirrors a similar provision from the fiscal year 2078/79 (2021/22) budget—which had been blocked by a Supreme Court order.

The petition seeks a halt to the current provision’s implementation and calls for a one-year jail term and fine under Section 17(4) of the Administration of Justice Act, 2073 (2016).
