KATHMANDU: The unification between the CPN-Maoist Center and the Ganganarayan Shrestha-led faction of the Nepal Samajwadi Party (NESP) is set to be announced today.
A unity declaration program is scheduled for 11:30 AM at the Kantipur Banquet in Gwarko Kharibot, Lalitpur. This move follows internal disputes within NESP after Co-Chairman Mahindra Raya Yadav and Ganganarayan Shrestha separated from Baburam Bhattarai.
On Sunday, Shrestha reorganized the central committee, assuming leadership with support from 17 of the 29 central executive members and 99 of the 160 central committee members.
Shrestha has accused Yadav of hesitating to unify with the Maoist Center, prompting him to lead the unification process. Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and other senior leaders are expected to address the unity declaration event.
NESP Chairman Mahindra Raya Yadav has dismissed the claims of unification, accusing Shrestha’s faction of spreading confusion. Yadav argues that there cannot be a split in the party, as the matter is pending before the Supreme Court.
Shrestha’s reorganization of the party has intensified the conflict, with Yadav maintaining that his leadership remains intact and opposing the unification with the Maoist Center.
