KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML is holding its central secretariat meeting today at 2 p.m. at its central office in Chyasal.
This is the first meeting taking place amid allegations that Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak was involved in an extortion racket targeting travelers using visit visas at Tribhuvan International Airport.
There is speculation about whether the party will address this issue, especially as pressure mounts from within the Nepali Congress for Lekhak to resign on ethical grounds.
Speaking to reporters at Biratnagar Airport on Saturday, Congress leader Shekhar Koirala said it would be morally appropriate for the Home Minister to step down.
According to UML leaders, today’s meeting will cover current political affairs and government-related matters, including the controversy surrounding Lekhak.
