KATHMANDU: Delegates from the dissident faction of the Nepali Congress have demanded that the party convene a special general convention, citing the political fallout from the Gen-Z protests.

The call, led by central committee member Guru Raj Ghimire, was formalized through a petition signed by convention delegates.

In a statement, the group said the party could not chart a credible path forward without openly acknowledging past mistakes.

“There is no alternative platform other than a special convention to apologize to citizens, well-wishers, and supporters for past failures, and to correct course for the future,” the delegates declared.

The statement further noted that the country’s fragile state, the Congress party’s internal disarray, and growing doubts about its leadership demanded an extraordinary gathering.

The dissident representatives urged fellow Congress members to join what they described as a reform campaign to restore the party’s credibility.

The demand underscores mounting pressure on the party establishment ahead of the festival season and growing calls for leadership accountability.
