EC issues directive to provide primary health care services at voting centres

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has directed the bodies concerned that primary treatment services be made available at voting centres for necessary primary health care during the House of Representatives member election to be held on March 5.

For this, the Commission has drawn the attention of the concerned to keep the healthcare workers in hospitals and health institutions in ready position.

Voting will take place at 10,967 polling stations and 23,255 polling centres (including temporary ones) on March 5. On that day, the Commission has called for arrangements to be made for primary health care services that may be required by election staff, security personnel, and voters such as the disabled, infirm, and senior citizens who come to vote.

The administrative works related to the election have been continuously ongoing as per the schedule approved by the Commission and it has instructed the bodies concerned to arrange for the provision of emergency health services at all polling centres for staff, security personnel and voters who may require it during the House of Representatives election, said a statement issued by EC’s Joint Secretary and Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.

He stated that the Commission has written, through the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, to the bodies concerned for necessary support in all local levels.

The Election Commission also stated that a letter has been sent to the Ministry of Health and Population and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration to keep doctors, health workers, and medicines ready in hospitals and health institutions across the country to provide essential and emergency medical services.
