Election to exercise sovereignty resting on people: Commissioner Dr Tuladhar

KATHMANDU: Election Commissioner Dr Janaki Kumari Tuladhar has emphasized on a transparent, impartial and credible electoral system for improved democracy.

In a discussion with heads and representatives of the national organizations permitted for election monitoring, Dr Tuladhar highlighted the wider importance of electoral process monitoring for free and fair election.

“Election is not only a process to cast vote but also a crucial medium to exercise sovereignty resting on the people”, she noted.
Independent, objective and responsible observation is expected to contribute for keeping trust of the general voters, ensuring legal arrangement and code of conduct and making election management further reform-oriented.

“The existing legal framework, rule, directive and code of conduct related to election should be fully complied with during election observation.

The observers should be engaged in fulfilling their duties independently being not influenced by any political party, candidate and stakeholders”, the commissioner stated.
