KATHMANDU: Four ministers from the Nepali Congress have resigned from the Bagmati Province government, signaling deepening internal rifts within the ruling party’s provincial leadership.

The ministers who resigned are Suraj Chandra Lamichhane (Minister for Internal Affairs and Law, also the government spokesperson), Bimal Thakuri (Minister for Culture and Tourism), Madhu Kumar Shrestha (Minister for Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation), and Min Krishna Maharjan (Minister for Youth and Sports).

The ministers reportedly sent their resignation letters to Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama via WhatsApp. Despite the government being led by the Nepali Congress itself, the resignations come amid growing dissatisfaction with CM Lama’s leadership.

Sources say the four ministers had recently met with Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba in Kathmandu before making their decision to resign. Following this, preparations are underway to register a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Lama within the provincial parliamentary party.

According to insider reports, a draft of the motion has already been prepared and may soon be officially submitted.
