GANDAKI: The Gandaki Province Assembly has failed to meet for over a month following the destruction of the assembly building during the Gen Z protest.
It was September 1 the Province Assembly held the meeting last time. The meeting was summoned twice since then, but could not be conducted. It is still unsure when the meeting would be held.
The meeting was called for September 10, but the demonstrators during the Gen Z protest vandalized and torched the Assembly Building on September 9.
After the damage, preparation was made to hold the meeting at the hall of Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Cooperatives last Wednesday. The day also passed without convening.
Speaker Krishna Prasad Dhital informed that the Assembly meeting was postponed till the issuance of next notice. “Now, the meeting will be held immediately after Tihar festival. Preparation will be completed before the festival.”
Both the managerial and technical preparations are essential to conduct the assembly meeting. Preparation is afoot to discuss and pass the Bill on Marijuana and the Bill on Mines and Minerals.
The delayed conduct of the legislative body is to hinder the lawmaking process.
