KATHMANDU: Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki, proposed by Gen-Z protesters as the interim head of government, said she is prepared to shoulder the role if entrusted with it.

Speaking to Indian media News18, Karki expressed gratitude to Nepal’s youth movement, which has rallied behind her as a neutral and credible figure amid deepening political turmoil.

“Gen Z believed in me to lead the government for the short time. I am ready for the responsibility,” Karki told News18, underlining her willingness to accept the challenge of guiding the nation during a transitional phase.

She further confirmed her decision to heed the protesters’ appeal: “I have accepted their request to lead the interim government.”

Karki, Nepal’s first and only female Chief Justice, was unanimously backed during a virtual meeting of Gen-Z organizers today.

Protest leaders argue her independence from party politics makes her the ideal candidate to steer Nepal through its current crisis, marked by violent demonstrations, curfews, and heightened military presence in Kathmandu.
