KATHMANDU: CPN (UML) General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has said that “Gen Z” is not a Nepali identity but an imposed label given by others.

Speaking at a program organized by the UML in Bhaktapur today, Pokharel stated that the concept of “Gen Z” was introduced by the West and does not reflect Nepali society.

“For generations, our Eastern civilization has been characterized by the harmony of four generations living together. Forgetting that, should we start identifying our youth based on the labels given by the West as ‘Gen Z’? Gen Z is not our identity,” he said.

“It is an identity someone else has forced upon us, and we must understand that,” he added. Pokharel added that the Western strategy of dividing societies by generations is aimed at disturbing the social cohesion of countries like Nepal.
