Government announces decisions of Cabinet meeting

KATHMANDU: The government has made public the decisions of its Cabinet meeting.

Government spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagdish Kharel, held a press conference on Friday to announce the decisions taken at the Cabinet meeting held on October 16.

The government made a total of 20 decisions, including recalling resident ambassadors from 11 countries.

The Cabinet decided to recall ambassadors from China, Germany, Israel, Malaysia, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan.

The Cabinet also approved accepting USD 10 million in grant assistance from the Multidonor Trust Fund managed by the World Bank for the Public Financial Management Project.

Additionally, the government decided to establish two joint companies in Nepal and India under a joint investment of Nepal Electricity Authority and India’s Power Grid Corporation Limited to construct the 400 kV cross-border transmission line.

The Cabinet approved the Nepal Electricity Authority to invest Rs 1 billion and Rs 2 billion as equity in the two companies, respectively, according to spokesperson Kharel.

The Cabinet also approved the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) between Nepal and India, allowing for cooperation in legal and criminal matters.

Furthermore, Nepal is authorized to propose similar agreements with other countries as needed and to send diplomatic proposals accordingly.

The Cabinet approved the master plan for the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, designating it as a national priority project.

Approval was also granted to proceed with tendering and procurement for remaining works under the project.

Minister Kharel highlighted that the project is advancing alongside Nepal’s growing success in cricket.

In the judicial sector, the Cabinet approved the promotion of Registrar Jitendra Babu Thapaliya of the Nepal Judicial Service from Gazetted First Class to Special Class, appointing him as Secretary of the Judicial Council.
