KATHMANDU: The government has outlined 13 key priorities for the upcoming fiscal year, as presented by President Ram Chandra Paudel in his address to the joint session of the Federal Parliament.

The first priority is to strengthen the federal democratic republic and counter any movements that oppose it.

Additionally, the government plans to initiate a constitutional amendment process based on consensus to address gaps identified during its implementation. Political and policy stability will be another key focus, ensuring consistent governance throughout the year.

The government will also prioritize the reprioritization of development projects, placing emphasis on feasibility and the elimination of non-viable or flawed initiatives. This includes creating proper timelines for project completion and suspending those that cannot be completed or have been deemed ineffective.

Education reforms will also take center stage, with particular attention to improving school education by addressing challenges in the sector and introducing a curriculum that encourages entrepreneurship.

Youth-focused startup programs will be revamped, particularly to cater to the emerging Generation Z, ensuring that youth have the tools and support to thrive in the modern economy.

In the health sector, the government will focus on expanding the human resources required to meet the growing demand for healthcare services. The national health insurance program will also be restructured to enhance its coverage and efficiency.

On the agricultural front, the government plans to accelerate the commercialization of agriculture, with coordinated efforts from the federal, provincial, and local governments to improve infrastructure and create better conditions for farming businesses.

A significant part of the agenda involves eliminating unnecessary bureaucratic structures, streamlining government processes, and expanding faceless and online public services to improve service delivery and transparency.

Finally, the government aims to establish strong and balanced international relations, positioning Nepal for effective diplomatic engagement in the global arena.
