KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives session was suspended for 30 minutes after opposition parties disrupted proceedings, demanding the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
Opposition lawmakers from CPN (Maoist Centre), Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) obstructed the meeting immediately after it began, prompting Speaker Devaraj Ghimire to suspend the session temporarily.
Earlier, Speaker Ghimire had allotted time for Nepali Congress chief whip Shyam Ghimire to speak on behalf of the ruling party, but RSP MPs protested loudly, preventing government MPs from addressing the House.
The opposition continued to block government lawmakers while calling for Home Minister Lekhak’s resignation amid allegations tied to the ‘visit visa’ scandal.
RSP MP Shishir Khanal demanded the formation of a high-level investigation commission into the scandal, accusing the Home Ministry of organized corruption and illegal money collection.
Khanal stated, “At Tribhuvan International Airport, innocent youths are being exploited through visit visas, running a racket involving crores in illegal collections. The Home Minister is allegedly involved, with controversial appointments under his watch.”
He added that the parliamentary session would not proceed unless a thorough probe is initiated and the Home Minister steps down.
