KATHMANDU: Despite protests from the opposition regarding the visit visa controversy, the meeting of the House of Representatives will go ahead.
Following a discussion at Singha Durbar among Speaker Devraj Ghimire and chief whips of the three major parties, Nepali Congress Chief Whip Shyam Ghimire informed that the House meeting would proceed regardless of whether the opposition agrees or not.
He stated that if the opposition cooperates, the session will move forward smoothly, but if not, the House will still function amid protests. Ghimire also noted that the opposition has not yet withdrawn from its stance.
Similarly, CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula said that from now on, the House will no longer be adjourned merely through posted notices. He emphasized that the previous day’s adjournment via public notice would not continue and announced that discussions on the budget would begin and the civil service bill would be presented.
He expressed confidence that the full parliamentary process would now move ahead and the opposition would cooperate.
During the discussion, Speaker Ghimire expressed dissatisfaction, saying that although he had repeatedly postponed House meetings to allow time for political consensus, no solution had emerged.
