KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party- Nepal (RPP-N) Chairperson Kamal Thapa has sharply criticized Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s recent statement urging his party cadres to “take control of Kathmandu” on May 29.
In a Facebook post, Thapa wrote: “Prime Minister KP Oli’s statement calling on his cadres to ‘take control of Kathmandu’ on Jestha 15 (May 29) is contrary to the dignity and responsibility of his office. It is against the constitution and democratic values and norms. Political parties, the Human Rights Commission, and the international community will surely take this statement by the Prime Minister seriously.”
Royalist groups, including RPP Nepal, are planning a street demonstration in Kathmandu on May 29 demanding the restoration of monarchy and Hindu state.
PM Oli’s remarks have been viewed by critics as an attempt to mobilize force against the planned rally.
