KATHMANDU: The Federal Parliament’s Legislative Management Committee is meeting today to hold a clause-wise discussion on the National Science Laboratory (Establishment and Operation) Bill, 2081.
The bill, registered in the National Assembly, had already undergone a general debate before being forwarded to the committee for detailed review.
The proposed legislation envisions establishing a national laboratory dedicated to analyzing evidence through scientific methods.
The facility would be responsible for testing biological and non-biological samples, documents, goods, physical items, and electronic materials submitted to the National Forensic Science Laboratory for research and examination.
Key provisions of the bill include the formation of a board of directors with defined roles and powers, procedures for testing and examination, the appointment of the executive director and staff, management of funds, and guidelines for accounting and auditing.
Lawmakers are expected to scrutinize these provisions clause by clause before the bill advances to the next stage of the legislative process.
