KATHMANDU: Chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Rajendra Lingden, has announced that the nationwide campaign for the reinstatement of the monarchy and Hindu state scheduled to begin on May 29 (Jestha 15) will be peaceful and that the party will not allow the government side to resort to violence either.
Taking a jab at the Prime Minister’s recent remarks in Parliament, he said: “The PM recently said that at his age, he can no longer run away. He didn’t say he wouldn’t run only that he couldn’t. If they don’t wish to compromise, we will at least give them the courtesy of leaving by helicopter. Let them use that facility.”
Addressing a preparatory meeting of the Joint People’s Movement Committee and its coalition parties, Lingden called upon national human rights commissions to observe and monitor the protests.
He emphasized that the movement will give no excuse for state suppression or violent provocation. Lingden stated that their campaign will be grounded in civil disobedience and nonviolent resistance (satyagraha), expressing a firm commitment to achieving their ideological goals through peaceful means.
“We are determined to bring this movement to a conclusion this time,” Lingden declared. “Even in our neighboring countries, a 190-year-old British rule was brought to an end through satyagraha. We will end this republic the same way.”
Lingden urged all party members and supporters to remain honest and committed to ensuring the success of the movement.
