KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and Chair of CPN (Unified Socialist), Madhav Kumar Nepal, has claimed that the corruption case recently filed against him is a politically motivated move orchestrated under the direction of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed the case at the Special Court over alleged irregularities tied to land transactions involving Patanjali Yogpeeth in Kavrepalanchok district.

Reacting to the charges, Nepal said, “Oli has been against me from the very beginning. His intention has always been to eliminate me politically.”

He further alleged that PM Oli’s actions are driven by personal vendetta. “He’s driven by a sense of revenge. Similar attempts have come from him before,” Nepal remarked.

Rajendra Pandey, Senior Vice-Chair of the CPN (Unified Socialist), also accused Oli of misusing state mechanisms. “The CIAA was directed by Oli to register this case,” Pandey said, reinforcing Nepal’s claim that the action was politically influenced.

Nepal strongly denied the allegations. “I have never acted with malicious intent to benefit myself, commit corruption, or issue such instructions. I have always stood against such activities,” he stated during a speech in Rautahat before heading back to Kathmandu.

Under constitutional provisions, the filing of a corruption case by the CIAA results in the automatic suspension of a lawmaker.

“Naturally, questions will arise about what lies ahead. But I will face whatever legal process follows,” he said, signaling readiness to confront the proceedings.

Nepal not only chairs his party but also heads its parliamentary party in the House of Representatives. His potential suspension could trigger a leadership vacuum and spark internal debates within the party over strategy and succession.
